Spiritual Communion

Spiritual Communion

As we know, Catholics Churches are closed all over the world and because of that, the sacraments have been taken away from the people. Most importantly, the Eucharist and confession. This is the holiest time of the year, and we are unable to participate in the celebration of the Mass or receive forgiveness for our sins. It is inconceivable that this is happening, yet it is. The Eucharist gives grace and strength to the children of God. We need Jesus. He still wants to enter every human heart and flood it with His love and grace. We can receive that through spiritual communion.

St. Thomas Aquinas once defined a Spiritual Communion as “An ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament [in Communion at Mass] and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had actually received Him.”

Anyone who truly desires to receive Jesus can pray one of the following prayers asking Jesus to come to them spiritually, and He will. Jesus will fill the hearts of His people with His love and presence, and that will sustain us until we can receive the Lord again physically in Holy Communion.

A Spiritual Communion

“My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Blessed Sacrament.

I love you above all things and I desire you with all my heart.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already in my heart and unite myself to you completely.

Please do not let me ever be separated from you.” Amen

The Spiritual Communion-Pieta Prayer Book

O Jesus, I turn toward the Holy Tabernacle where you live hidden for love of me. I love you, O my God. I cannot receive You in Holy Communion. Come nevertheless and visit me with your grace. Come spiritually into my heart. Purify it. Sanctify it. Render it like unto your own. Amen

Lord, I am not worthy that You shouldst enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
